On Memories and the Way We Were

Rooms are living things, always evolving.
But do you ever wish a space would stay frozen in time?

Nero still remembers the day in April of '07 when beaming Charlotte belle, Laura Vinroot Poole, posed en pointe next to a pair of porcelain poodles.

This opium den of dreams, replete with a metallic Paco Rabanne curtain, pierced Nero's heart.
It was daring, effervescent -- without par.

Several years later the same lair surfaced, softened, settled, pastelled...pliant.
But something was lost in transformation -- that visceral pull.
Some things should always stay the same.

Well now, is the problem that the room should have stayed as it was, or that if it were to be changed, it should have become BETTER?

Hello Alcira:
An interesting point. On balance, however 'good' a look may be, and this we feel applies as much to gardens and exteriors as to interiors, the challenge must always be to try to improve on it, to make it better still. And this, for us at least, becomes part of the fun. But NEVER change for change's sake.

Both rooms are going in my mismatched couch files... And now I have a Paco Rabanne fixation. Thanks!

When she tires of that Beni, she can send it to me.

Dearest Blue Fruit,

Perhaps you coined it -- yes, the room was great fun to begin with, but should've become bloody dangerous the second go-round.

Dear Ms. BC,

Yes, I was totally partial to the Shanghai red.
It's gone a bit anemic if you ask me.

Dearest Jane and Lance,

Always, always words of wisdom from you pair of bloggers flow.
I'm thinking that as Ms. Vinroot Poole helms a fashionable boutique, she likely loves to try the newest trends. But I wouldn't have touched a thing.
Cheers, Alcira

Erin,

You wanna know what's worse?
Try googling "Paco Rabanne Space Curtain" -- the scenes of sparkly, slinky shock and awe, not to mention the hefty price tags, will amaze you.
