Stealing Beauty
What better way to dive head-first into the annus novus than with a bright new shelter pub? Nero's scanner's on the fritz, fair Nerophytes, but believe me when I decree that the February issue of House Beautiful delivers like no one's business. It's fresh, sophisticated to the core, global but appropriately cheery -- winter doldrums be damned. All you non-subscribers would do well to take a leap of faith here and go out and score a copy, stat.
Nero's been waiting in the wings like a ravenous hawk for my girl Kara Mann to unveil another one of her masterpieces in print. Alas, we're only thrown a bone here, but it'll give me something to gnaw on until her next meaty morsel drops. The woman is a design deity -- did I mention girl crush much?

I actually thought it was one of their weaker issues! The cover didnt appeal to me, and a lot of the spreads felt like they were leftovers that didnt make it into any of last years issues...
Hi there Sketch,
The cover certainly lacked edge and the first half or so of the pub leaned more conservative -- a touch more Hamptons cottage than I'd dig -- but I loved the Erin Martin piece, as well as many of the accessories and details scattered throughout.
Hey, second opinions are always welcome here ;)
These days, shelter pubs are running rather ragged, so anything that isn't an eyesore is a step up.
I will say I like this issue of HB better than the latest Veranda with the lovely Dara at its head.
Alcira
Alcira, Now I am intrigued it should be in my mailbox!?
Happy New Years!

Still waiting on mine...
Cheers Karena,
In my opinion, it's a good one -- take a gander ;)
Hope 2011 started well.
Alcira
Howdy R,
It's got some good bits -- delishisness too ;)
Alcira
i leafed through it and was pretty underwhelmed..
i suppose cuz you like it i might have to go through it again and see with a set of different eyes.
the cover alone was enough to make me want to stomp baby monkeys in the face.
Howdy MFAMB,
Ouch! Poor baby monkeys ;)
The cover did seem a little cottagey and random.
Who knows, I seem to be the only person who dug the issue.
Perhaps spending prolonged, sleepless jags at home in bad pjs with a kid this holiday season has warped my sense of vision ;)
Still, it's slim-pickens in the magazine world these days, so hell, I'll take whatever I can get ;)
Cheers, Alcira
